Korca, sightseeing

Orthodox Cathedral of ressurection of Christ (Katedralja Ngallja e Krishtit)

The cathedral was completely rebuilt in 1992 in the same place where the St. George cathedral, destroyed by the
Communist authorities in 1968, once was standing. This impressive building is the largest
church in Albania, and the second largest in the Balkans. Inside, the
white interior is dominated by a huge carved wooden iconostasis.

14th century Byzantine church painted with brightly-coloured frescoes that UNESCO
specialists describe as being among the best in the Balkans. The church is situated in Situated in Mborja village, to reach it follow the signs out of town past the brewery and the George hotel to Mborja; the church is in the village centre, a 20 minute walk uphill from central Korça.
